【Amanah Party Congress】 Second Day Starts With Intense Atmosphere, Delegates Almost Clash Over Party Election Postponement

(Kuala Lumpur, 9th) The second day (9th) of the Amanah Party Congress kicked off with an intense atmosphere! Delegates nearly clashed over whether to postpone next year's party elections.

It is reported that during the congress on the previous day (November 8), a delegate proposed a motion not to postpone the party election, but it was eventually rejected by the Motion Committee. The delegates were disgruntled and demanded a debate on this proposal the following morning (9th).

After a round of arguments, the Congress Chairperson Azhar allowed delegates to debate the issue, stating that the main purpose was for party leaders to hear the opinions of the delegates, while emphasizing that there would be no vote on this motion.

Azhar's decision dissatisfied some delegates. While Negeri Sembilan Youth Wing Communication Chief Zainal was debating, one delegate attempted to rush onto the stage to speak, but was eventually stopped and escorted out by security personnel.

Zainal from the Port Dickson division said during the debate that they do not agree with Amanah once again postponing party elections on the grounds of preparing for the general election, as this is an unhealthy political culture.

"We must recognize that even PAS, whom we often look down upon, holds their party elections as scheduled. They seem to be more disciplined than us. We must remember this."

He added that currently, no one knows whether the national general election will be held in 2026 or possibly in 2027. Therefore, postponing the party election for the sake of preparing for the general election is not reasonable.

He hoped party members would not worry that intra-party strife due to party elections would affect the general election, because such situations are inevitable in politics; it all depends on how the party headquarters establishes a set of rules to regulate them.

Another delegate, Che Ming, said during the debate that the party congress is not the highest decision-making authority of the party; whether to postpone the party election should be decided by the Central Committee.

"If the party congress is the highest decision-making body, can I just ask to replace the chairperson here? Can I just ask for our leadership to stay on indefinitely?"

He reminded the chairperson that whether a motion is accepted should be handled by the Motion Committee, and that the chairperson's responsibility is only to maintain order at the congress.
