The General Administration of Customs of China announced that the bilateral trade between China and the United States maintained growth in the first quarter of this year, with an import and export volume of 1.11 trillion RMB (672.803 billion MYR), a year-on-year increase of 4%.
The General Administration of Customs of China released the first-quarter economic data on the 14th. The General Administration stated that despite the U.S. government's arbitrary imposition of tariffs, China-U.S. bilateral trade still maintained growth.
Wang Lingjun, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Customs, stated at the press conference that the U.S. government's excessive tariff imposition inevitably has a negative impact on global trade, including China and the U.S. China promptly implemented necessary countermeasures, which is not only to safeguard its legitimate rights but also to uphold international trade rules and justice.
First-quarter Export Growth of 6.9%
Meanwhile, China's goods trade import and export totaled 10.3 trillion RMB (6.24 trillion MYR), an increase of 1.3%. Among them, the total export volume was 6.13 trillion RMB (3.72 trillion MYR), an increase of 6.9%.
Import and export trade data shows an accelerating growth rate, with a 2.2% decline in January, leveling off in February, and a 6% increase in March.
The General Administration of Customs stated that in the face of increasing external challenges, various regions, departments, and foreign trade operators actively responded to ensure a stable start to the foreign trade import and export in the first quarter.
ASEAN continues to be China’s largest trading partner, with an import and export of 1.71 trillion RMB (1.04 trillion MYR), growing by 7.1%, increasing its share of China’s total foreign trade to 16.6%.
Spokesperson: The Sky Won’t Fall
Lu Daliang, spokesperson and director of the Department of Statistics and Analysis at the General Administration of Customs, stated at the press conference that although China’s exports currently face a complicated and severe external environment, “the sky won’t fall.”
He said that China’s domestic market is vast, serving as an important stronghold. “We will firmly resolve to manage our own affairs well, using our certainty to cope with the uncertainties of the external environment.”
