The 97th Academy Awards will be held on the morning of March 3rd next year, Malaysian time. The organizers have announced the preliminary shortlist for several awards, including Best International Feature Film. Unfortunately, 《Fudo Youth》, representing Malaysia in the race for this award, did not make the cut.
Directed by Wong Lee Lam and produced by Angelica Lee, starring Golden Horse Award winner Wu Kang-ren, Jack Tan, Lin Xuan Yu, Alven Chen, and Joey Leong, 《Fudo Youth》 was recommended by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) to represent the country in the Oscars. This is also the first time Malaysia has recommended a Chinese-language film for the competition. Sadly, it did not make it to the shortlist. Also missing the mark among Asian films are Hong Kong's representative 《The Siege of Kowloon City》 and Taiwan's representative 《Old Fox》.
Among those shortlisted are the Thai box office hit emotional film 《How to Make Millions before Grandma Dies》, the popular French film 《Emilia Perez》, and the Icelandic film 《Touch》, starring Kimura Takuya's younger daughter, Koki.
