The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China has allocated 200 million yuan (118 million MYR) to support emergency recovery after severe flooding in Guizhou and other locations.
According to the official WeChat account of the NDRC, in response to severe flooding recently in Guizhou Province, the National Commission for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief of China activated a national level-four disaster emergency response on the evening of the 24th.
In accordance with the National Natural Disaster Relief Emergency Plan, the NDRC urgently allocated 100 million yuan (59 million MYR) from the central budget to aid post-disaster emergency recovery of transportation, water conservancy, medical and health care, education, and other basic infrastructure and public service facilities in the affected areas of Guizhou. An additional 100 million yuan was allocated to support post-disaster emergency recovery efforts in Guangdong and Hunan, in order to accelerate restoration of normal production and living order.
Over the past two weeks, heavy rains in southern China have led to flooding in several areas. Rongjiang County in Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou, suffered a once-in-30-years severe flood, and in Sandu County, a major highway bridge collapsed after continued downpours triggered a landslide.
