(Miri, 18 Sep) Curtin University recently held its annual flagship event, the “2025 Careers Fair,” successfully attracting over a thousand students, graduates, and job seekers, and gathering 49 renowned institutions from various industries to provide abundant employment and internship opportunities.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Miri City Councillor Leslie Lau, who represented the guest of honour, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Tourism.

In his speech, Datuk Sebastian Ting highly affirmed the transformation and development of the Careers Fair over the past 15 years. He stated that this is not merely a job fair, but also a vital platform for growth, employment, and community development.
“For students and graduates, this is an important opportunity to showcase their talents, discover potential, and start their career journey; for the Miri community, it’s a reminder that opportunities are within everyone’s reach, and not only for those with higher education.”
He emphasized that the inclusivity of the event aligns with the Sarawak government’s goal to cultivate future-ready talent with the capability to face globalization and technological changes—developing a skilled, adaptable, and resilient workforce.

Professor Vincent Lee, Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Officer of Curtin University Malaysia, further pointed out that the Careers Fair has become one of Sarawak’s most substantial and vibrant career development platforms.
“This event is not only open to students but also provides employment opportunities, industry insights, and professional networks to the wider public. Whether it’s internships, interviews, or brand new career inspirations, participants will all gain something beneficial.”
He emphasized the importance of industry collaboration for student success. Universities can inspire, but without close ties to industry, they cannot fully prepare students for the future. “Through internships, mentoring, and training offered by companies, students will develop the required skills and confidence. We are not only cultivating graduates, but also forging a stronger workforce for Sarawak, Malaysia, and the world.”
A highlight of this year’s fair was the first participation of the Miri Police Commercial Crime Investigation Unit, raising awareness among job seekers of online scam prevention.
