(Kuching, 22nd) – A house located at Mile 10, Tunku Yakim 2nd Road in Matang was destroyed in a fire last night.
According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Center (PGO), the department received an emergency call at 9:08pm. The Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Batu Lintang) and Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Petra Jaya), led by Awang Ismail Awang Masri, were immediately dispatched to carry out the firefighting operation.
The statement said: “When the team arrived at the scene, the house was already fully engulfed in flames. Two firefighting hoses were used to put out the fire, with hydrant water supply. Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station was responsible for relay pumping to provide additional water supply.”
It is understood that the homeowner is 60-year-old Azhar Jenal, who fortunately was not injured in the fire. The cause of the fire and the amount of losses are still under investigation.
A total of 16 personnel and three fire engines (two FRTs and one EMRS) were mobilized for this operation. The operation concluded at 10:38pm.
