Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Dato' Fadil confirmed that famous Malaysian singer Namewee (Namewee, 42 years old) was arrested by police at around 4:30pm on October 22, in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur, where police found suspected drugs.
In a statement on Monday, he stated that a task force from the Jinma District Police searched the hotel room and found nine blue pills, initially suspected to be Ecstasy, with a total weight of about 5.12 grams. The police arrested Namewee on the spot and took him back to the police district headquarters for further investigation.
Initial urine test results conducted at the police station showed that Namewee tested positive for multiple drugs, including amphetamine (Amp), methamphetamine (Meth), ketamine (Ketamin), and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Subsequently, the police applied to the court for a remand order, and the suspect was further detained for two days to assist with the investigation.
Fadil pointed out that after the completion of the investigation, Namewee was charged in court on October 24, facing two charges:
First charge: Under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, charged with possession of drugs.
Namewee pleaded not guilty and was allowed bail of RM4,000 with one local surety.
