Regarding unilateral visa-free policies, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that personnel traveling to China for work, study, interviews, and reports do not fall within the visa-free scope.
The Consular Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a FAQ on unilateral visa-free policies on the 21st.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that foreigners traveling to China for business, tourism, family visits, friendly visits, exchanges, or transits, which comply with the visa-free policy, can enter the country upon lawful inspection and permission by the Chinese border control authorities. Those whose reasons for traveling do not align with the visa-free policy or possess any other legal reasons restricting entry, the border control authorities will legally decide on the denial of entry.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised carrying proof consistent with the purpose of travel such as invitation letters, flight tickets, and hotel reservations. Personnel traveling to China for work, study, interviews, and reports do not fall within the visa-free scope.
Moreover, foreigners need to travel to China with a valid ordinary passport which should meet the requirements of the duration of their stay in China. Those holding travel documents, temporary or emergency certificates other than ordinary passports are not eligible for the visa-free policy to China.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that unilateral visa-free policies apply to all sea, land, and air ports open to foreigners (except where laws, regulations, or bilateral arrangements state otherwise). If traveling to China by self-provided means of transportation, necessary procedures for entering and departing China must be completed according to relevant Chinese laws and regulations.
