Former Taiwanese leader Chen Shui-bian announced on social media Sunday (January 4) that the scheduled debut of a program he was to host was cancelled, claiming Premier Cho Jung-tai had "ordered the broadcast not be allowed."

On Sunday morning, Chen posted on Facebook that the show, “Leader Talks With the Mirror,” which was scheduled to premiere that day, had already been cleared by Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC), but Deputy Minister of Justice’s Department of Corrections, Lin Hsien-ming, had called him and relayed Premier Cho Jung-tai’s directive to "order the show be banned from broadcast."

Chen Shui-bian revealed that Cho Jung-tai stated that if the show were broadcast, “Ah-Bian would be taken back in.”

Chen also said: "To all friends looking forward to Ah-Bian hosting ‘Leader Talks With the Mirror,’ sorry to let everyone down."

Last Friday (January 2), pro-green media outlet Mirror News announced that Chen Shui-bian would be hosting "Leader Talks With the Mirror," which would premiere Sunday on YouTube, claiming it would be "Taiwan's first and only show hosted personally by a former president."
In a promo clip released by Mirror News Saturday (January 3), it was revealed that the first guest on the show would be former DPP Chairman Hsu Hsin-liang. On the show, Hsu told Chen Shui-bian that after Taiwan's former leader Tsai Ing-wen won the election, Mainland China had used intermediaries to reach out to him, stating that “(General Secretary of the CPC) Xi Jinping wanted to meet Leader Tsai.”

In response to Chen Shui-bian’s Facebook post, Mirror TV issued a statement on their official website Sunday, saying that they were surprised to hear that Chen Shui-bian’s program, scheduled to premiere that day, had been cancelled because “Premier Cho had ordered that Ah-Bian would not come.” Mirror TV stated it respected the decision and would pause the broadcast as scheduled, with all considerations centering on host Chen Shui-bian.

Chen Shui-bian was detained in 2008 for a corruption case and transferred in 2013 to Peide Hospital at Taichung Prison to serve his sentence. In 2015, he was granted medical parole due to deteriorating health. Taichung Prison previously set the so-called “five no’s” principle for Chen—no entering campaign events, no going on stage, no public speeches, no interviews, and no political activities.

However, over the past ten years, Chen Shui-bian has repeatedly faced accusations of violations. Taichung Prison stated last Friday that it had issued a written warning to Chen Shui-bian directing him to strictly observe the conditions of his medical parole, and that it would continue to monitor the situation in accordance with regulations.
