(Kuching, Jan 5) Yesterday, the Sarawak Pay Office and Sarawak Urban Transformation Centre were crowded with citizens seeking assistance to apply for the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance Program.
Despite being a weekend, citizens flocked to the Sarawak Pay Office to process their Sarawak Pay accounts so they could receive the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance Program.
People from all walks of life gathered, with service counters open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On site, everyone preferred to line up and wait for a number, and after obtaining a number, they patiently waited for counter services.
According to records, the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance Program provides annual financial aid of RM250 to RM800 to assist those in need with purchasing basic necessities.
Eligible recipients are Sarawakians residing in Sarawak with a household income of RM5,000 or less, who can receive RM800 assistance; single and childless elderly with an income of RM5,000 or less, who can receive RM400 assistance; and singles with an income of RM2,500 or less, who can receive RM250 assistance.
