Lee King Sing: JCI Is Like a Big Family—Family Day Inspires Youth Development

(Miri, 26th) Sarawak Minister of Transport and Senadin State Assemblyman Dato Sri Lee King Sing stated that the Junior Chamber International (JCI) is an organization that provides a good platform for training and development for young people. Through various activities and award mechanisms, it motivates youths to continuously improve and unleash their potential.
He made these remarks today when attending the JCI Malaysia Sarawak Area Family Day held at the Berjaya Sailing Club.
He said that this Family Day event being held by the seaside creates a warm atmosphere akin to family outings, which is different from activities typically held in hotels. This fully reflects the true meaning of a “Family Day.” He also praised the organizing chairperson and the team for successfully planning the event, and affirmed the enthusiastic participation from all parties.

Lee King Sing pointed out that he has supported JCI activities for many years, describing the organization as one of the key associations he supports, and has witnessed its contributions in youth training and leadership development. He believes JCI provides a comprehensive growth platform for youths through leadership training, community service, and various projects.

He particularly mentioned that over 30 awards would be presented that evening, describing it as a rare accomplishment, and believes that rewards and competition effectively motivate young people to give their all in their respective fields and do their best, while also nurturing correct values.

“When the members of an organization, from the leadership to the grassroots, treat each other like family, a strong sense of cohesion is formed.” He said, quoting “A harmonious family prospers in everything” to emphasize the importance of unity.

He pointed out that, amidst the daily busyness of meetings, projects, and training, Family Day provides a platform for members to put aside work, strengthen interactions, and through communication and connection, further solidify their relationships and camaraderie.

He also remarked that the personal attendance of the National President at the event is akin to the “father” of the family being present, making the gathering even more meaningful. He praised members from Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Sabah and other places for traveling from afar to join the event, seeing this as a testament to JCI's strong “family spirit,” just like a reunion dinner during Chinese New Year.

In addition, Lee King Sing also introduced Air Borneo in his speech, noting that this airline offers a fixed fare service, such as a Kuching-Kuala Lumpur round-trip for RM375, unaffected by peak season or last-minute bookings.

He said Air Borneo is a full-service airline, and passengers can enjoy 23kg free checked baggage and onboard meals, including Sarawak specialty foods like Dabay Fried Rice, Laksa, Kolok Mee, and even Umai and other local delicacies served in business class.

“Unlike low-cost carriers, we provide a complete service, but with transparent and fixed pricing, so even last-minute bookings won't experience price spikes.”

He revealed that Air Borneo has already launched regional routes to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, will soon fly to Jakarta in the coming months, and plans to gradually expand more routes as the fleet grows.

He also encouraged JCI to strengthen cross-regional exchange and attract more members from Peninsular Malaysia and beyond to visit Sarawak, to promote interaction and understanding.

He suggested that, in the future, awards could be established to recognize chapter leaders who bring the most members to participate in activities, further promoting the “Family Day spirit” of JCI.
