On the 26th, a severe fire broke out at Fortune Garden, a residential area in Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong. A large number of residents had to evacuate to shelters. Many citizens from Hong Kong and Shenzhen spontaneously donated supplies, while Chinese enterprises such as Xiaomi and ANTA donated tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars for disaster relief.
According to HK01, several videos circulating on social media show that on Wednesday night, many enthusiastic neighbors near Fortune Garden spontaneously supported relief efforts, donating bottled water, biscuits, bread, clothing, and other supplies. Several vehicles loaded with supplies arrived, and many warm-hearted citizens drove or cycled to the scene, transporting boxes of supplies to temporary shelters or the fire site, passing them along in a human chain.
Some netizens commented, “Hong Kong people are always so loving.” Others said, “The spirit of Hong Kong people has never changed. The three words ‘Hong Kong people’ are truly something to be proud of.”
According to China Central Television News, many citizens from Shenzhen also drove across the border late at night, loaded with supplies to support Hong Kong. Reportedly, the supply collection point on Yuntou Street, Hong Kong, became “full” as of midnight on the 27th.
