The Rongjiang County of Guizhou Province, China, has been hit by a major flood. The county authorities reported that the roads in the affected areas have limited capacity, and a large influx of support teams may cause traffic congestion. They are calling on all charitable rescue teams to temporarily refrain from heading to the disaster site on their own.
On Saturday (June 28), the Flood and Drought Control Headquarters of Rongjiang County issued a notice, acknowledging the positive contributions made by external parties to the county's flood rescue efforts, and said: "The 385,000 people of Rongjiang County express their most heartfelt thanks to you."
According to a notice released on the WeChat public account of the Publicity Department of the Rongjiang County Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Flood and Drought Control Headquarters stated that flood rescue efforts in Rongjiang are proceeding in an orderly manner. However, due to the limited road capacity and small operational areas in the disaster region, a large influx of support teams may result in traffic congestion and delays in material allocation, thus affecting the efficiency of rescue efforts.
The Flood and Drought Control Headquarters added that, in order to ensure that rescue operations are carried out in a scientific, efficient, and safe manner, it sincerely requests that all groups of charitable rescue teams temporarily refrain from heading to the disaster site on their own. "If you are still concerned about Rongjiang, please contact the office of the Flood and Drought Control Headquarters of the Rongjiang County People's Government before going, and only do so if there is an actual need."
According to People's Daily, as of 6:00 p.m. Saturday, a total of 41,574 people had been relocated and evacuated in Rongjiang County.
