(Miri, 14 July) — The team from i-CATS Miri has won the Silver Award at the 2025 Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement Award (CIPTA) held in Brunei. Their innovative project, the "Pineapple Skin Pesticide," was recognized in the ASEAN New Invention & Innovation category, closely aligning with this year’s theme of “Green Innovation.”
The i-CATS Miri team stood out from fierce competition across ASEAN, making it into the final 15 regional finalists. The project was one of seven Silver Award recipients, sharing the honor with renowned institutions from the Philippines, Thailand, and other states of Malaysia. The judging session was held in May 2025, with evaluation based on the sustainability, innovation, and real-world application potential of each entry.
The award ceremony took place on July 2, 2025, at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Brunei, with the esteemed patron of CIPTA, His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince of Brunei Darussalam, officiating the event in person.
The i-CATS Miri team said they were honored to represent the i-CATS Miri Branch and contribute to a greener and more innovative future for agriculture in ASEAN. They hope this achievement will bring more opportunities for impactful and sustainable research development in the agricultural sector.
The “Pineapple Skin Pesticide” project centers around eco-friendly agriculture, making use of pineapple skin and similar agricultural waste to develop a natural plant-based pesticide that is both environmentally friendly and practical, showcasing a breakthrough in local research and innovation in the field of green agriculture.
This achievement not only highlights i-CATS Miri’s rising status on the international innovation stage, but also demonstrates the vital role local youth play in sustainable agricultural development.
