Energy Ministry Launches SuRIA Home: Household Solar Installation Rebate Up to RM3,000

(Kuala Lumpur, 22nd) The Ministry of Energy and Water Transformation has launched the Sustainable Rebate & Incentive Assistance Program for households (SuRIA Home), encouraging household users to install solar systems on their rooftops to help reduce electricity costs.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Fadillah, said the government has allocated RM150 million for the implementation of this program from June 1 to December 31, or until the quota of 250 megawatts (MW) is reached, on a first-come, first-served basis.

He pointed out that under this program, families who install the Enhanced Solar Transformation Program (Solar ATAP) system and meet the requirements can receive a rebate of RM600 for every 1 kilowatt of alternating current (kWac) solar system installed, up to a maximum of RM3,000, equivalent to 5kWac.

“It is expected that this program will benefit 45,000 to 50,000 households with a cumulative installed solar capacity of approximately 250 megawatts, thereby promoting the use of residential rooftop solar energy nationwide.”

Fadillah announced at the SuRIA Home launch at the ministry’s monthly assembly that the program is open to all Solar ATAP solar installations.

Fadillah said that only Malaysians who have successfully activated the TNB Solar ATAP system and put it into use, and are household low voltage (LV) individual users, are eligible for the rebate. This is to ensure the rebate benefits all users in a fair and transparent manner.

He pointed out that each eligible user is only allowed to apply for the rebate once.

Fadillah further stated that any institution found abusing the application system provided by the Malaysian Sustainable Energy Development Authority and TNB, including solar suppliers, may be blacklisted and banned from participating in future incentive programs.
