Myanmar Acting President Myint Swe Passes Away

Myanmar's acting president Myint Swe passed away on the morning of the 7th in Naypyidaw.

On the 7th, Myanmar’s military government stated in a statement: “Acting President Myint Swe passed away at 8:28 a.m. today.”

The statement pointed out that the 74-year-old acting president died at a hospital in the capital, Naypyidaw.

The statement: “It is hereby announced that a state funeral will be held for Acting President Myint Swe.”

According to Myanmar's official media Global New Light of Myanmar on the 6th, Myint Swe was in critical condition in July this year, showing symptoms such as weight loss, loss of appetite, fever, and decline in cognitive function, and received intensive care in Naypyidaw.

Myint Swe was born in 1951 in Mandalay Province, Myanmar. In 2016, Myint Swe became the First Vice President of Myanmar. In 2021, after then-President Win Myint was detained, Myint Swe took office as acting president. Since the beginning of 2023, Myint Swe has received treatment multiple times for difficulties in eating and mobility.

According to Myanmar Radio and Television’s report on July 22, 2024, for health reasons, Myint Swe transferred the duties of acting president to the chairman of Myanmar’s State Administration Council.
