South Korean actress Kim Sa-rang (Kim Sa Rang), best known for her roles in ‘Secret Garden’ and ‘Abyss,’ is recognized as an “ageless goddess” in the entertainment industry. Recently, however, news broke that her property was seized due to overdue national taxes, sparking heated discussion. In response, Kim Sa-rang herself said: “The tax delinquency was indeed due to our negligence. We will make sure to avoid this in the future by carefully reviewing and paying taxes honestly and on time.”
According to Korean media reports, Kim Sa-rang had already paid off all outstanding taxes as of the 9th, before the reports emerged. A related source revealed: “She only became aware of the tax arrears after receiving the first overdue notice around March, and began paying the taxes in succession from May 8th. On the 8th and 9th, all outstanding taxes were settled. At this point, there are no longer any delinquency issues.”
As for the seizure of the property under Kim Sa-rang’s name, the source stated: “Her property was seized during the process of paying the taxes. She only found out that her property had been seized after reading the news reports, once payment was complete.” According to Korea’s ‘National Tax Collection Act’, tax authorities are not obligated to give prior notice before seizing properties. After mailing a payment notice, they may carry out seizures without further warning. Even if the taxpayer settles the debt, they must proactively apply for the release of the seizure and submit relevant proof. The record of seizure will only be removed after review by the tax authorities.
