U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller on the 17th reiterated that the Taiwanese President's transit through the United States is in line with established precedent and longstanding policy.
Responding to a media question at a regular press briefing, he stated that transit by Taiwan’s president and other senior officials through the U.S. is consistent with established practice and fully in line with longstanding policy.
He pointed out that such transit arrangements take into account the visitor’s safety, comfort, convenience, and dignity.
Taiwanese media recently quoted sources as reporting that President Lai Ching-te is expected to visit diplomatic allies in Central and South America in August, and will transit through New York and Dallas, Texas, in the United States.
The report said that Lai Ching-te will visit three allies: Paraguay, Guatemala, and Belize.
In addition, Taiwan’s representative office in the U.S. said there is currently no relevant information to share; should there be any concrete arrangements, the Presidential Office will make announcements at an appropriate time.
