Bekenu Kampung Rambai Disaster: Rosey Inspects the Situation and Allocates Assistance

(Miri, 19th) Continuous heavy rain recently has caused severe flooding in Kampung Rambai Bekenu, resulting in landslides in some areas and causing casualties. The Deputy Minister of Sarawak Women and Child Development and ADUN for Bekenu, Datuk Rosey Yunus, visited the disaster area today to communicate with local residents, understand the disaster situation, and announce the provision of assistance.

Rosey Yunus stated that this flood not only affected the Bekenu area but also caused landslides leading to casualties. The insufficient rescue resources in the disaster area resulted in some affected families not being rescued in time. She emphasized that this disaster taught us an important lesson. In the future, there must be early establishment of emergency teams, improvement of community disaster prevention capabilities, and more efficient allocation of rescue resources.

She pointed out that the impact of the flood is not limited to houses being flooded; many unharmed residents were isolated due to blocked roads, preventing them from receiving basic supplies and assistance. In the future, disaster prevention work should fully consider different types of disaster situations to provide more effective aid.

To help residents in the disaster area quickly return to normal life, Rosey Yunus announced an allocation of RM5,000, of which RM4,000 is to aid the JKKK of Kampung Rambai, and RM1,000 is for activities related to Hari Raya. She hopes that this funding can alleviate some of the pressure of post-disaster reconstruction and promote the community's emergency preparedness.

It is understood that this flood affected 195 villagers and 65 households. Most of the victims have been evacuated to the PPS SMK Bekenu temporary flood evacuation center.

Accompanying Rosey Yunus during her inspection were Kampung Rambai village head KK Amir Emran, and Bekenu UMNO Women's Chairman and Councillor Hadijah Sheikh. They discussed subsequent aid measures to ensure that residents can return to normal life as soon as possible.
