(Bandar Seri Begawan, 11th) Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) has officially launched the eighth term of the BIBD SEED Entrepreneurship Program for 2026 and held a certificate awarding ceremony, with 13 participants from government agencies, community organizations, and the public formally joining the program to embark on a new journey of entrepreneurial development.
This cohort comprises trainees nominated by the Department of Community Development (under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports), Brunei Prison Department (under the Ministry of Home Affairs), Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB, under the Ministry of Religious Affairs), Sultan Foundation, and Aftercare Support Association (AFSA).
Acting Head of Government Relations and Special Projects at BIBD, Zurhazlan Sazali, attended the event on behalf of BIBD and presided over the certificate awarding ceremony, welcoming all trainees to the BIBD SEED Entrepreneurship Program.
The participants commenced the BIBD SEED Entrepreneurship Bootcamp on June 8, 2026, and over the next six months will take part in structured capacity-building courses to develop practical business skills and entrepreneurial mindsets.
The training covers key areas such as business planning, financial management, marketing, digital applications, and pitching skills, helping participants equip themselves with the knowledge and abilities needed to build and grow sustainable businesses.
The BIBD SEED initiative is a key Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program under the BIBD Entrepreneurship Pillar. It aims to empower aspiring entrepreneurs—especially women and individuals from vulnerable groups or low-income communities—by providing entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and business support, helping them enhance economic resilience, create sustainable income sources, and improve quality of life.
Zurhazlan Sazali stated that entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in promoting self-reliance and economic empowerment.
He said the BIBD SEED program is not only an entrepreneurship initiative but also a platform that helps individuals build a better future. Through this program, participants can gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to develop sustainable businesses and create income opportunities.
He also expressed gratitude to government agencies, government-linked companies, NGOs, and community organizations for their support and cooperation, which have enabled the program to bring lasting and positive impact to Brunei's various communities.
BIBD SEED highlights the vital value of collaboration in advancing social and economic development. By working together with government and non-governmental organizations and community stakeholders, the program provides resources, guidance, and support to aspiring entrepreneurs, assisting them toward greater economic independence.
In addition to fostering entrepreneurship skills, the program also contributes to improved family well-being and reduced socioeconomic challenges in the community by strengthening financial resilience, enhancing self-sufficiency, and promoting employment.
The program aligns with Brunei Vision 2035 goals, particularly in developing a skilled and highly productive population, improving quality of life, and driving sustainable economic growth. BIBD SEED continuously propels inclusive growth through entrepreneurship and capacity building, contributing to Brunei's long-term development objectives.
