(Thailand, 29th) — A Thai man was arrested by police on suspicion of slashing a Vietnamese woman with a box cutter in Bangkok on the 27th. This tall and obese man subsequently stated that the reason he targeted the woman was because he doesn't like overweight women.

The incident gained widespread public attention on the 28th after netizens posted photos and videos of the arrest process on Facebook.

According to Thai media reports, at 11:30 am on the 27th, local police in Bangkok received a report from a 7-Eleven convenience store at the entrance to Soi 5 on Silom Road, stating that a tall and obese man had attacked a foreign woman with a box cutter, injuring her.

After arriving at the scene, police quickly traced the suspect's escape route, apprehended him swiftly, and found a 9-inch box cutter used in the attack on his person.

The victim is a 29-year-old Vietnamese woman who is currently working in Thailand. According to reports, she received 14 stitches at the hospital.

The suspect is a 30-year-old Thai man from Lopburi province who has long been homeless and often sleeps on the streets or in the central divider of roads, regularly moving from place to place. Owing to his large stature, local residents generally avoid interacting with him.

Further investigations by local media revealed the man has a history of attacking passersby, including throwing objects at pedestrians, and often specifically targets women, causing residents in the area to live in constant fear.

The police arrested him on charges of "intentional bodily harm resulting in injury." After being taken into custody, the suspect admitted to the attack and claimed the motive was "I don't like fat people," explaining that he himself weighs 120 kilograms; he stated he did not want others to be overweight and wanted to be the only overweight person.

Allegedly, he also told investigators that seeing an overweight woman walking by made him feel angry, resulting in the assault.

That afternoon, after receiving hospital treatment, the victim returned to the police station to identify the suspect in person, and expressed her wish for him to be held criminally responsible to the fullest extent of the law.
