US Military Begins Blockade of Iranian Ports on the 13th

Published at Apr 13, 2026 10:45 am
After US President Trump ordered the Navy to begin blockading the Strait of Hormuz, US Central Command announced that starting at 10:00 AM (Eastern Time) on the 13th (10:00 PM Malaysia time), it will implement a blockade on all maritime traffic entering or leaving Iranian ports.

In a statement released on the 12th, US Central Command said: "This blockade operation will be enforced equally on vessels from all countries entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports located in the Arabian Gulf (Persian Gulf) and the Gulf of Oman."

Different from Trump’s Statement

The statement added: "Central Command forces will not impede the freedom of navigation for ships traveling to and from non-Iranian ports through the Strait of Hormuz." This appears to be an adjustment from Trump’s earlier statements on social media announcing a blockade of "any and all ships."

British Media: UK Will Not Participate in Hormuz Blockade

After US President Trump announced the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the UK emphasized it would not participate in the blockade.

On the 12th, Sky News cited a government spokesperson stating that the UK will continue to support the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which should not become a toll passage. The UK is currently working with France and others to form an alliance, with more than 40 countries — including several European nations, Japan, and Canada — having pledged to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz after hostilities end.
