(Kuching, 18th) The Sarawak government has agreed to allocate an additional RM500 million for the procurement of medical equipment for the Sarawak Cancer Center, raising the total financing for the project to RM1.5 billion.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari said this decision was made after taking into consideration the urgent need for specialized cancer treatment facilities in the state.
He stated that the state government is covering the hospital equipment costs to ensure the continued welfare of the people of Sarawak.
“The demand for cancer treatment continues to rise. We are making early payments because the number of cancer patients is increasing, so this project must be accelerated.” He said this during a media interview at the Sarawak 2026 Budget meeting held in Kuching today.

On March 30, 2024, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the federal government had agreed to build the Sarawak Cancer Center in Samarahan Division.
Anwar pointed out that through this project, the Sarawak government made history by becoming the first state government in the country to advance funds for a federal project in order to expedite its implementation.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian stated yesterday that the hospital is expected to be completed and operational before 2031.
