Hai Junjie Fundraises to Save Wife, Suddenly Appeals for Low Profile

Hong Kong actor Hai Junjie posted a video on Instagram on the 8th, seeking help and saying that his wife has 'acute liver cirrhosis' and urgently needs a liver transplant. She was transferred from Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong to the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. The estimated surgery cost is 1.5 million HKD (about 800,000 MYR), and he, together with friends, has managed to raise 700,000 HKD (about 374,000 MYR). He hopes others will lend a helping hand for the remaining shortfall. In response, Queen Mary Hospital told the media that 'the transfer was not through our hospital,' and some specialist doctors also pointed out that medically there is no such thing as 'acute liver cirrhosis,' and Mrs. Hai's condition should be 'acute liver failure.' Queen Mary Hospital is the only public hospital in the city to perform liver transplants, and is among the world's best; they've never heard of patients needing to be referred to China. In the early morning of the 11th, Hai Junjie issued another statement clarifying that his wife does indeed suffer from acute liver failure and revealed the details about the transfer; regarding his previous claim in an interview that Guangzhou doctors said, 'The liver is available and the operation can be done within a day or two,' his mother-in-law on the 10th stated that they are still waiting for a donor, awaiting notification from the hospital, and hope to keep everything low profile.

In the early hours of the 11th, Hai Junjie posted that his wife was urgently sent to Queen Mary Hospital earlier, where she was diagnosed with acute liver failure and told by doctors that the situation was grim. 'Our family has always lived in China, and after discussing with our family members, we decided to transfer to the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou for treatment.' After being admitted to the Guangzhou hospital for about 5 days, his wife experienced many unforeseen changes and had to be transferred to ICU for emergency treatment. Since there was a possibility of a match, the hospital estimated the surgery fee at 500,000 HKD (about 267,000 MYR), with other medical-related costs potentially exceeding 1 million HKD (about 534,000 MYR) in total. It was in this anxious and helpless state that he made the video seeking help, worrying everyone. He also said the video received a huge response, with many people reaching out with support and care, especially expressing gratitude to his company 'Tianmeng Entertainment,' Pei Brother (Yan Peiyi), Hong Kong Performing Artistes Association president Louis Koo, Eric Tsang, and many friends within and outside the entertainment circle for their assistance. As for his wife’s current condition, he said daily close coordination and planning with the medical team is required and he, together with his family, must watch over and accompany his wife.
