(Kuching, 19th) As of September this year, Sarawak has exported 13,427 kg of raw and clean edible bird's nests, valued at 154.4 million MYR.

Datuk Seri Stephen Lendi, Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, stated that the state's bird's nest industry is another significant contributor to its export income.

He mentioned that so far, 2,184 establishments within the bird’s nest supply chain (including swiftlet houses, processing plants, cave swiftlet collection centers, service providers, traders, and exporters) have been equipped with RFID technology to ensure traceability.

"In addition, 118 swiftlet houses have obtained the Malaysian Good Agricultural Practices certification, and 10 bird's nest processing plants have received the Veterinary Health Mark or Good Veterinary Hygiene certification to enter the global market."

He pointed this out during the summation of his department in the parliament today.

He also acknowledged the rising interest in swiftlet farming among the rural community, especially those farming on native customary rights land.

Lendi stated that the ministry is closely collaborating with Sarawak Forestry Corporation to provide licensing procedures for these farmers.

"This initiative aims to support rural economic development while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements."
