The event was organized by the Miri Che Lee Khor Moral Uplifting Society and invited the Sarawak Minister of Transport and Senadin area assemblyman, Dato’ Sri Lee Kim Shin, as the guest of honor to personally distribute the aid to the beneficiaries.
Speech by Tony Pui, Chairman of Miri Che Lee Khor.

Tony Pui, Chairman of Che Lee Khor, said in his speech that the society adheres to the spirit of “giving back to society”, and organizes aid activities during every festival, including the Lunar New Year, Hari Raya, Gawai Dayak, and the Ghost Festival, to provide warmth and care to the less fortunate in society.

He especially thanked Dato’ Sri Lee Kim Shin for attending and for his long-term support and sponsorship of Che Lee Khor’s charitable activities, demonstrating a spirit of care for society.

He pointed out that this year marks the 14th year of the Hari Raya aid distribution activity, aiming to cultivate charitable spirit and compassion among members while providing assistance to vulnerable groups within the Miri community.

“This year, a total of 100 families benefited, each receiving 50 MYR in cash and food worth 130 MYR. These donations and supplies were all generously contributed by Che Lee Khor members.”

Tony Pui also particularly thanked the enthusiastic support from various merchants and kind-hearted individuals which made the event successful.

He also mentioned Che Lee Khor’s active participation in Miri flood relief actions recently, specifically including the event on February 16th, held at Miri Red Crescent and Miri Athlete Village, assisting 46 affected families, with each receiving supplies and cash worth 260 MYR; on February 21st, a joint relief event with ParkCity hotel in Simunjan, assisting 100 affected families, each receiving supplies and cash worth 260 MYR; and the disaster relief donation distribution ceremony held jointly with Che Sing Khor Chee Lee Pavilion at Dato Permai Suri Hall in Permyjaya yesterday afternoon, distributing 300 MYR cash to each of the 275 affected families.

He pointed out that this disaster relief fund comes from donations from the entire membership of the Malaysian Moral Uplifting Society, covering Miri, Serian, Sibu, Bintulu, and Simunjan, assisting disaster victims in various areas to overcome hardships.

He also thanked the organizing committee, all members, and the contributions from the Youth Wing and Women’s Wing for the smooth conduct of the event.

Chairman of the organizing committee, Tan Poh Siong, expressed that this event is one of Che Lee Khor’s annual events, primarily aimed at helping some vulnerable groups and people in need.

He pointed out that donating is something everyone can do. Besides financial assistance, one can also provide food, guidance to the lost, and companionship to the lonely.

“These actions, seemingly insignificant, can often bring about significant changes. I hope that one day, everyone can also help the people around them and contribute to society.”

Tan Poh Siong emphasized that doing good is not for returns, but good deeds have their rewards, often bringing unexpected outcomes. He said that charity is a positive energy that can change oneself and change the world.

“Let us support each other, promoting the spirit of generosity, and jointly create a better and happier social environment.”
