(Kuching, 29th) The Sarawak Sustainable Development Blueprint is a comprehensive roadmap aimed at guiding industries in coordinating economic growth with environmental protection.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari announced this development blueprint today at the 2024 Sarawak Sustainable Development Insight event, highlighting two key aspects: green transformation and economic equity, with the goal of establishing a strong framework integrating sustainable practices.

“This blueprint will not only address current environmental challenges but also proactively anticipate future needs related to climate resilience and the green economy.”

“By promoting synergies between various sectors, we can improve the efficiency of resource planning and implementation, ensuring that every effort makes meaningful contributions to our sustainable development goals.”

Abang Johari, who is also the Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, further outlined ten strategic priorities under the blueprint, including energy transition, sustainable agriculture and food security, green transportation, circular economy, sustainable manufacturing, sustainable and responsible mining, conservation and enhancement of natural assets, sustainable urban and community development, and eco-tourism.

Regarding the energy transition strategic priority, he stated that Sarawak is committed to continuously leveraging clean energy to meet domestic energy demands and electricity exports.

“Furthermore, energy efficiency (EE) is often considered the most achievable target in energy management. By adopting these measures, we can 'unlock' electricity without building new power plants, saving significant public funds and meeting the growing demand for power.”

To this end, he said that the Sarawak government has also developed a dedicated energy efficiency sub-policy under the Sarawak Energy Transition Policy, laying the foundation for sustainable energy consumption.
