(Yangon, 14th) – In Myawaddy Township, Kayin State, Myanmar, a total of 635 buildings in the KK Park suspected of involvement in criminal activities are being demolished. Officials stated that as of now, 110 buildings in Zone A have been demolished, and all 148 buildings in the entire Zone A will be fully cleared to eradicate illegal activities.
Reportedly, for a long time, foreign nationals have entered Myanmar through illegal border routes, mainly entering KK Park via neighboring countries such as Thailand, to participate in online fraud, gambling, and other illegal activities. Authorities have identified and investigated the relevant personnel and are gradually deporting them back to their home countries in accordance with legal procedures.
The demolition covers all buildings in the park used for criminal activities to prevent similar illegal behavior from recurring. Zone B includes 73 buildings consisting of residential blocks from one to five stories high, warehouses, and constructions in progress; Zone C has a total of 414 buildings, including multi-story residences, hospitals, SPAs, shopping malls, hotels, KTVs, and basketball courts, all of which are included in the clearing scope.
Investigations reveal that about 90% of the illegal entrants and criminals come from Thailand, mainly via the Thai border into KK Park. In addition, Thai businessmen have supplied the park with building materials, generators, Starlink internet devices, daily necessities, fuel, and other essential items through unlawful channels, further fueling online gambling and scam activities in the park.
Officials stated that the demolition and clearing operations will continue to ensure that this area will no longer become a hotbed for transnational crime.
