(Kuching, 4th) Malaysia's Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environmental, and Climate Change, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, stated that the federal government is finalizing the 2025-2040 National Clean Air Action Plan (NCAAP) to address challenges related to air quality.

He stated that the plan aims to improve environmental air quality in Malaysia and serves as a guiding document to promote unified and comprehensive efforts for better air quality.

“The formulation of NCAAP 2025-2040 involves collaboration with various stakeholders, such as government agencies, the private sector, industry participants, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, etc.”

Fadillah Yusof pointed this out while delivering a speech at the 13th Asian Aerosol Conference (AAC) held today at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

He said that the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environmental, and Climate Change is adopting a highly ambitious decarbonization approach, committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

In this regard, he stated that the Ministry is finalizing its long-term low-emission development strategy to guide Malaysia in achieving this goal.

“Moreover, the Ministry is also finalizing the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) roadmap to plan the emission reduction pathway, aiming to reduce the greenhouse gas emission intensity of the entire economy by 45% compared to 2005 levels by 2030.”

He said the roadmap will help identify specific sectors and stakeholders for implementing emission reduction initiatives to contribute to achieving Malaysia's NDC targets.

Regarding the conference, Fadillah Yusof admitted that the conference provides a platform to emphasize the urgent need for a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to addressing aerosol-related challenges in the fields of science, technology, policy, and practice.

“This conference is an important platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging expertise, and showcasing the latest research in aerosol science. Through ongoing research and cooperation between scientists, policymakers, and international partners, Malaysia has the full potential to make significant progress in understanding and managing complex aerosol-related issues.”

More than 400 scientists, industry leaders, government bodies, and policymakers from 36 countries participated in the 5-day conference, aiming to address key issues in aerosol science.

The conference invited 23 distinguished speakers from Australia, Greece, Turkey, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, Singapore, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia to deliver keynote speeches.
