【Perlis Menteri Besar Faces Pressure】PAS Hopes Bersatu Acts Against Assemblymen Involved in Political Turmoil

Published at Dec 26, 2025 11:16 am
PAS Deputy President Dato’ Seri Tuan Ibrahim hopes that the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (Bersatu) will take decisive action against state assemblymen involved in signing statutory declarations that sparked political turmoil in Perlis. He stressed that such action is not only due respect to Perikatan Nasional allies, but also helps maintain discipline and overall stability within the coalition.

In a statement on his Facebook page on Thursday night, he emphasized that compared to the previous disciplinary incident in Kelantan’s Nenggiri that led to a by-election, the situation in Perlis is even more serious as it directly impacts the stability of the Perikatan Nasional state government.

He pointed out that Bersatu had previously expelled the former Nenggiri assemblyman for expressing support for Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar, even though that incident did not involve signing a statutory declaration.

Tuan Ibrahim stated that in the Perlis incident, PAS has already taken strict action against the three state assemblymen from PAS who were involved.

He said that although this decision may pose a risk to the stability of the Perlis state government, when it comes to party discipline, PAS will never compromise.

"PAS believes that the party’s principles and integrity must be placed above short-term interests."

He called on all PAS members and supporters to remain calm and disciplined, not to be easily influenced by provocations which will only benefit opponents.

"As a major partner in Perikatan Nasional, we believe that Bersatu will display a united and firm stance in line with the spirit of the anti-hopping law and the mandate entrusted by voters."

He said that now, in order to rectify party discipline, PAS has taken necessary action, and he believes that Bersatu should also do the same with its own state assemblymen.
