(Bandar Seri Begawan, 2nd) In view of the recent water supply interruption, the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES), through the Consumer Affairs Department (JHEP), continues to inspect and supervise business premises, with particular focus on the sale of bottled water.
These inspections aim to monitor prices and ensure that businesses comply with legal regulations, and do not take advantage of the current situation to raise prices unscrupulously, especially for essential goods that are in high demand.
JPES reminds businesses not to profit from the temporary water disruption. Any unreasonable price increases would burden consumers and may constitute a violation of existing consumer protection laws.
If encountering issues with excessively high or unreasonable prices, the public is encouraged to call the Darussalam hotline at 123 or send an email to aduanpengguna@jpes.gov.bn to lodge a complaint with the Consumer Affairs Department.
Any complaint must be accompanied by proof documents such as purchase receipts, price photos, or other relevant information, to facilitate further investigation or enforcement action.
JPES will continue to supervise and take appropriate enforcement actions to protect consumer rights and promote fair and ethical business practices.
