After a Vietnamese vessel sank in the waters near Yongshu Reef in the Nansha Islands of the South China Sea—an area with disputed sovereignty—China has handed over 41 rescued survivors to Vietnam. In addition, China’s coast guard rescued two more Vietnamese crew members on Sunday night.
According to reports from Xinhua News Agency and CCTV, before the two Vietnamese crew members were rescued on Sunday night, China had already rescued 45 people. All 45 are Vietnamese nationals who were aboard the stricken vessel "KHOI NGUYEN 18."
On site, China has deployed six vessels and one helicopter for the search, while Vietnam has mobilized seven vessels.
Additionally, China’s Coast Guard vessel Xuande discovered two overboard Vietnamese crew members on Sunday night. Coast guard officers promptly launched rescue operations, successfully bringing the two to safety at 10:38 PM and 11:32 PM, respectively. Both rescued individuals are in stable condition.
