(Kuching, 25th) Once again shining on the international stage, North Kuching City Hall (DBKU) has been successfully selected to represent Malaysia in the global “World Healthy and Positive Ageing City Initiative” (2025–2027).
According to TVS News, North Kuching Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman stated that this recognition further strengthens DBKU’s international standing as a competitive and forward-looking local government.

He said: “This honor comes right after our significant achievement in Istanbul, where DBKU won two international awards at the 2025 International LivCom Awards.”
He made these remarks during a press conference held on Monday, November 24th, at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Complex (DUS).
DBKU is one of only five cities globally to be selected in the initial batch, with the other four cities being Porti in Georgia, Katowice in Poland, Dali Prefecture in China, and Recife in Brazil.

The program, led by the International Positive Ageing Expert Committee and the United Nations International Institute on Ageing, aims to assist cities worldwide in promoting the agenda of healthy and positive ageing.
During the three-year program, DBKU will receive guidance from international experts, technical support, and strategic coordination to implement community-based projects, senior welfare plans, and inclusive urban development strategies.
At the 2025 LivCom Awards, DBKU received the Silver Award in the “Whole City Category” in recognition of its outstanding performance in overall urban planning, environmental management, community participation, arts, culture and heritage preservation, and its promotion of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Meanwhile, the innovative Darul Hana Musical Fountain project also received the Bronze Award in the “Technology Solutions Category,” acknowledging its use of technology to enhance urban vitality and promote community-centered development.

Among 281 entries from 52 countries, DBKU also succeeded in entering the global top 30 and was invited to present at the finals in Istanbul.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, in charge of Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs, Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi, expressed gratitude for the Sarawak government’s continued support of North Kuching’s development, which also aligns with the vision of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
He said: “This city-level recognition reflects DBKU’s success in achieving SDG goals, especially in excellent environmental management, inclusive community participation, and effective promotion of arts, culture, and heritage.”
At the state level, DBKU has also pioneered the “Electronic Summons Notification” initiative, reducing processing time from 30 days to 1 day, and thus received the Bureaucracy Improvement (RKB) Certificate at the 2025 Sarawak Public Service Day, marking another milestone.
Overall, these achievements demonstrate DBKU as a proactive, innovative, and sustainability-oriented urban management agency dedicated to building inclusive and resilient urban communities.
