Emphasizing Integrity and Unity for National Strength, His Majesty the Sultan Cracks Down on Corruption

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 15th) His Majesty the Sultan stated that may Allah grant us all peace, and expressed gratitude to Allah for bestowing abundant blessings that allow us to gather and celebrate His Majesty’s 80th birthday.
His Majesty said that, in an atmosphere of peace and prosperity, he sincerely thanks all those from home and abroad for their congratulations.
This morning, at the Investiture Ceremony held at Istana Nurul Iman, His Majesty delivered a royal address.
For nearly 60 years of maintaining peace, I and the people have experienced various twists and turns of life, witnessing the passage of time together, from foundational development to the modern era. Only one thing has remained unchanged—the faith, loyalty, and unity that have formed the backbone of the nation since ancient times.
Therefore, if we wish to become a strong country, the measure is not wealth, but sincerity, as well as unity when facing any challenges.
Thus, I will not compromise with any political parties that attempt to divide the unity of the people. Likewise, in Brunei, society cannot tolerate corruption and dishonesty, as they threaten the nation’s welfare and progress.
I wish to see the younger generation play a more meaningful role, not merely as bystanders to change and technology created by others, but to truly grow into creators, thinkers, and visionary leaders.
In this regard, our government will continue to support youths who wish to participate and expand entrepreneurship in various sectors, including through local banks, especially Brunei Islamic Bank (BIDB), TAI and Industrial and Commercial Bank, which provide microloans.
May Allah bless, I will continue to lead the nation toward achieving our 2035 national vision, which promises, with firm support from all sides, to build a developed, sustainable, and resilient country.
Speaking of national development, I would like to mention some of the progress and challenges we are currently experiencing in energy supply. Thanks to Allah, although the country is also affected by global uncertainty, overall the national energy supply is in a good position. Therefore, the government's primary task is to ensure strategic reserves, especially for petroleum fuels and liquefied petroleum gas cylinders, to meet daily needs.
Of course, this requires the shared responsibility of all parties, particularly in the utilization of energy resources, where continuous expansion of usage scale is needed. At the same time, efforts toward economic diversification have achieved results, stimulating the growth of industries outside oil and gas, which now contribute more than half of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
From a social perspective, the government and Brunei Islamic Bank (BIBD), through the “Teduh” project, use commercial zakat funds to build housing for various groups, including public-private partnerships.
We strongly encourage such cooperation to jointly improve the living standards of relevant groups. In terms of maintaining community safety, we have approved the Disaster Management Policy Framework, aiming to further strengthen disaster management through risk management and risk-based approaches.
Our government will continue to implement responsible fiscal measures. These include: expanding non-oil and gas revenue sources, enhancing prudent management of national expenditure, establishing business promotion agencies, and ensuring government processes are investment-friendly.
