In the era of AI, China's Ministry of Education and four other departments have recently issued the 'Action Plan for Artificial Intelligence + Education', which mentions promoting the cultivation and enhancement of artificial intelligence talent and literacy. This includes improving the intelligent literacy and skills of the majority of teachers and determining that artificial intelligence will be included in the content of teacher qualification exams and certification.
According to Xinhua News Agency reporters at a press conference held by the Ministry of Education on the 10th, the action plan focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence to empower teacher instruction. It proposes strengthening the application of intelligent teaching systems throughout the entire process of education and teaching—before, during, and after class—to reduce teacher workload and improve efficiency; assisting teachers with assignment management and advancing intelligent grading, answering questions, and tutoring; and using intelligent technology to analyze classroom teaching behaviors to help teachers improve teaching quality.
The action plan clearly states to accelerate the popularization of artificial intelligence education among primary and secondary school students, to fully and properly offer related courses; to comprehensively incorporate artificial intelligence education into local curriculum systems, guide localities to develop artificial intelligence curriculum guides, and specify curriculum objectives, content, and class hour requirements for each educational stage. It encourages interdisciplinary teaching of artificial intelligence and promotes the integration of artificial intelligence education into after-school services, research study, and other activities.
Focusing on cultivating high-level talent for the intelligent age, the action plan requires that artificial intelligence become a public basic course in universities, with curriculum textbooks compiled according to academic disciplines and majors, and that all students be enabled to master artificial intelligence knowledge.
