The Cambodian National Police and the Korean National Police Agency signed a memorandum of understanding in Phnom Penh on the 10th, announcing the establishment of a joint task force to cooperate in combating internet fraud and other transnational criminal activities targeting Korean citizens, further deepening and expanding law enforcement cooperation between the two countries.
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun attended and witnessed the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding. Senior police officials from both countries signed the cooperation document on behalf of their respective sides.
The establishment of this joint working mechanism marks an important step forward in law enforcement and security cooperation between Cambodia and South Korea.
According to information released later that day by the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the task force will be jointly operated by the police of both countries. Its responsibilities include handling cases related to Korean citizens, from receiving reports to carrying out rescues and investigations, all the way through to the repatriation of suspects.
During a meeting with Cho Hyun on the 10th, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Cambodian government is actively combating internet fraud and other transnational crimes, and that ensuring the safety and well-being of Korean citizens in Cambodia remains a top priority of the Cambodian government.
