"MCA is already old, I must admit. To be more direct, it is really not easy to find (members) aged 18 to 30."

MCA President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong admitted that MCA needs to actively attract more young people aged 18 to 30.

He emphasized the impact of young voters, citing the example that in the Melaka state election in November 2021, Barisan Nasional succeeded in winning about 75% of the seats, but just a year later, they were completely defeated in the Selangor parliamentary election.

"Young people can support you today, but if you deceive them once, they won't follow you again. We need to be a pragmatic party that does not rely on deception to get votes."

Wee Ka Siong made these remarks during a speech at the new member induction ceremony held at the MCA headquarters today. Among those present was MCA Vice President and Federal Territory State Chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Lim Mah Hui.

Subsequently, in a press conference, Wee Ka Siong added that with the lowering of the voting age to 18 after 2018, all political parties are actively attracting young new blood, and MCA also needs to make extra efforts to recruit more youths to join.
