Self-Disclosure of Becoming a Grandpa Soon: Wakin Chau Hopes It Won't Affect Box Office

Wakin Chau held a concert at Genting Cloud Star Theater on Saturday night, and during the show, he suddenly shared with over 5,000 fans present the joyful news: "I might become a grandpa very soon." The entire audience erupted into screams and continuous applause, showering "Grandpa Chau" with blessings.

"Kiss My Baby" is a song Wakin Chau composed in 1990 for his son Chau Houan. As the concert was nearing its end, he chose to sing this piece. He shared that while he sings many songs and can't remember how old they are, "Kiss My Baby" is easy to remember because he naturally thinks of the year whenever it's his son's birthday.

Wakin Chau could hardly contain his excitement as he said, the baby from back then is now over 30 years old, and it's easy to soon become a dad himself. He is really happy that "Kiss My Baby" is reaching the next generation. Even though his child doesn't have a huge emotional connection with this song, Wakin values it greatly and even claims he has reworked it into "Kiss My Grandson."

He hesitantly mentioned that he will soon become a grandpa, but amusingly gestured "no" with his hands. He added, "Baby, I have already shared this news with everyone here. I hope it won't affect my future box office." Whether Wakin Chau will soon become a grandpa is something we can expect to be revealed shortly.

After more than a year, hailed as the "Heavenly King Slayer," Wakin Chau sang from the foot to the top of the mountain with a sold-out show. One classic song after another, including "Actually Not Wanting to Leave," "Against the Wind and Rain," "Make Me Happy Make Me Sad," "Tomorrow I Will Marry You," would start, and the entire audience would follow the rhythm of a sing-along, with a familiar interaction between those on stage and the audience, akin to attending a New Year’s gathering with old friends. Occasionally, audience members shouted "Flower Heart," and Wakin humorously replied: "Don't worry, I'll definitely sing that song, otherwise the boss won't let me leave!"

The concert's theme was "A Boy's Fantasy Journey," simple words yet representing Wakin Chau's growth trajectory through a 38-year music career. At his age, Wakin Chau is more optimistic and cheerful, his self-mockery skills are top-notch. He joked about being stingy, thus not inviting guests for the concert, performing all duets by himself; in the concert, his outfit was just a blue T-shirt with a jacket for the entire performance, showing his true frugality.

However, as Wakin Chau said, the people present have watched him grow, so who cares what he wears, as long as he sings a few more classic love songs by Chau. Speaking about the love songs he's sung, he continued to joke: "I'm quite old now, being in my 60s and still singing love songs about I Love You and You Love Me, feels a bit disgusting!"

The concert featured not only a series of love songs from Wakin Chau but also classics from martial arts dramas like "A Difficult Scripture," "A Dream of Knife and Sword," "Lovers in the World," among others, as well as several Cantonese classics like "Unending Passion," "Along the Way with You," "Why I Must Leave," "Fire in the Snow," evoking a wave of youthful nostalgia in the audience. With the familiar music of "Friends" playing as the concert came to a close, Wakin Chau hoped for a better 2025, to possibly meet his fans again and promised to sing till 2045. He mentioned the price of the tickets will remain the same, and so will the band, inviting everyone to come back and listen to him sing again.
