Filming Project Launches at Lian Lu Secondary: AI Education Inspires a New Generation

(Miri, 10th) The ASEAN Foundation, in collaboration with Google.org, has launched a three-day 'AI Ready ASEAN' character documentary filming project at Lian Lu Secondary School in Miri, from October 8 to 10.

This project is a flagship initiative to promote artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and digital inclusion across the ASEAN region. It aims to showcase, through authentic educational stories, how AI education sparks innovation and transforms learning models within schools, inspiring a new generation of tech citizens.

The filming team is led by renowned Malaysian director Sarah Adilah, accompanied by ASEAN Foundation Head of Communications Mr. Anthony Octaviano and ASEAN AI Ready Project Indonesian Officer Mr. TiaroPaska Rivo.

The focus of the documentary is to present how educators and students from Miri apply AI learning and creation in the classroom. The main character is Mr. Wen Chunde, the AI Ready ASEAN Malaysia training mentor from Miri Tunku Village National Secondary School, with filming planning and coordination by Project Manager and Pra-U Tun Fatimah (Malacca) Co-curricular Activities Deputy Director Ms. Peng Yuju.

ASEAN Foundation Head of Communications Mr. Anthony Octaviano expressed, "'AI Ready ASEAN' is not just about technology, but about people. Through educational stories like those at Lian Lu Secondary School, we can see how teachers and students use AI as a tool for empowerment, creativity, and teaching—this is the essence of educational innovation."

'AI Ready ASEAN' Malaysia Project Manager Ms. Peng Yuju also added, "We are very grateful to Lian Lu Secondary School for their warm reception and active cooperation during the filming. The school's openness to AI digital transformation fully reflects the spirit of Malaysia’s education sector. I especially want to commend Mr. Wen Chunde for his long-standing promotion of AI training in Miri, which has had a profound impact on both students and teachers."

Once completed, the film will be released through ASEAN Foundation’s major communication platforms for regional educational promotion and advocacy work. The 'AI Ready ASEAN' initiative is funded by Google.org, targeting over 5.5 million people, training 2,000 lead mentors, and promoting AI literacy to 800,000 youths, parents, and teachers.

This initiative aligns with the 'ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025', 'Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL)', and the 'National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2021–2025',
showcasing ASEAN’s strong commitment to building a responsible, inclusive, and future-ready digital society.

"AI Ready ASEAN" Interview with Wen Chunde: Using AI to Spark Learning Potential
Mr. Wen Chunde shared in an interview, "Being able to promote AI learning in Miri has been an amazing journey. Many students initially lacked confidence in technology, but through the 'AI Ready ASEAN' project, they gradually discovered that AI can be used to solve problems, inspire creativity, and even promote community service. I am sincerely grateful to Lian Lu Secondary School for providing this platform, allowing us to jointly inspire the next generation of digital innovators."

Jiang Peijuan: AI must go hand in hand with education
Principal of Lian Lu Secondary School, Ms. Jiang Peijuan, stated, "It is a great honor for Lian Lu Secondary School to be a partner school for regional AI education filming. AI literacy has become an indispensable part of modern education. Whether in classroom instruction, academic research, or co-curricular activities, we always encourage teachers to use AI as a teaching aid and innovation tool.

Kang Yaxiong: Innovative Integration in Co-curricular Activities
Vice Principal of Co-curricular Activities at Lian Lu Secondary, Mr. Kang Yaxiong, pointed out, "The core of AI education is not to replace people, but to enhance learning. We hope that while students understand technology, they will also maintain empathy and judgment, letting AI become a bridge for learning and social responsibility.
