Taiwan's representative to Italy, Tsai Yun-chung, revealed that the office's Double Tenth National Day reception held on the 8th was nearly canceled due to pressure from mainland China.
According to Taiwanese media reports from CNA and Apple News Network, Tsai Yun-chung disclosed at an event in Italy on the 9th local time that the Taiwan Representative Office in Italy held its Double Tenth National Day reception at the renowned Parco dei Principi Hotel in Rome on Wednesday evening. The office had booked the venue with the hotel since the beginning of this year, but on the day before the reception, the hotel called to say that a large delegation from mainland China would be staying at the hotel. The hotel said it had received demands and pressure from the mainland side and thus had to cancel the Taiwanese reception.
Tsai Yun-chung said that the representative office spent an entire day fighting back, and ultimately, the mainland Chinese delegation stayed at another hotel.
Tsai Yun-chung stated that Taiwan loves peace and does not wish to be drawn into disputes with mainland China, but Taiwan and Italy share common values and both believe competition in the international community must be healthy, and established on fair and rule-based principles.
