(B.S.B., 12th) Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, Xiao Jianguo, recently emphasized that China and Brunei have always highly valued the development of the education sector, conducting friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation in education.
Xiao Jianguo pointed out that Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) has established good cooperative relationships with Chinese universities such as Tianjin University and Chongqing University, and has been organizing academic and student exchange programs for a long time with remarkable results.
He made these remarks while delivering a speech at the closing ceremony of the "2025 China-Brunei Overseas Innovation Project" (OIPP) held at UTB. The closing marks the successful conclusion of a two-week international academic cooperation between UTB and Tianjin University in China.
The ambassador mentioned that these collaborations include university-industry training programs, and that the Chinese government provides scholarships to Bruneian students, becoming a highlight of educational cooperation and cultural exchange between the two countries. The aim is to cultivate talent capable of contributing to the socioeconomic development of both nations.
He also recalled that during His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei’s state visit to China this February, both sides reached an important consensus to further strengthen educational cooperation and build a China-Brunei community with a shared future.
UTB Vice Chancellor Datin Zohrah attended the event, student representatives shared their views on the value of cross-border cooperation, and the project's highlights were presented via video. The ceremony concluded with the awarding of certificates and a display of smart robots made by the participants.
It is reported that the project was held from July 25 to August 7, bringing together 12 undergraduates and 2 staff members from Tianjin University’s School of Microelectronics. Jointly organized by UTB’s Global Office and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the project aimed to enrich students’ academic experiences and nurture a global perspective.
