Promoting Chinese New Year Road Safety Awareness: Red Packets Convey Safety Messages

(Miri, 20th) In anticipation of the Chinese New Year, the Sarawak Ministry of Transport has launched its first set of Chinese New Year red packets themed around road safety. These red packets are printed with bilingual safety slogans in Chinese and English, reminding the public to adhere to traffic regulations and drive cautiously during the festive season to ensure that every reunion journey is filled with safety and joy.

Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Minister of Transport and Chairman of the Sarawak Road Safety Council, stated that by including safety information in the red packets, it is hoped to convey the importance of safe driving while continuing traditional culture and help more families become aware of the critical significance of road safety during the Chinese New Year.

Unique Red Packet Design Reminds Public of Safe Driving

The specially designed red packets for the Year of the Snake 2025 bear traffic safety tips in both Chinese and Sarawakian, reminding the community to prioritize road safety during festivals and in daily life. These red packets not only carry New Year greetings but also convey important safety messages, encouraging drivers to care for others responsibly and ensure safe travel.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the flow of traffic significantly increases during the Chinese New Year, and so does the risk of accidents. By integrating safe driving information into the traditional custom of giving red packets, the Sarawak Ministry of Transport hopes to cultivate the road users' attention to safety and responsibility, reducing accidents during the festive period.

“Peace Every Year” is Meaningful

During the launch of the 2025 Lunar New Year Sarawak-level road safety campaign in Miri today, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin showcased this red packet. The front of the red packet prints the blessing words “Peace Every Year,” with a font design incorporating road elements and featuring creative sea, land, and air vehicle patterns.

As for the back of the red packet, it features road safety tips in both Chinese and Sarawakian, including “Don’t use your phone while driving,” “Remember to signal when turning,” “Do not drink and drive,” “Never run a red light,” “Drive carefully,” “Remember to wear a helmet,” and “Please fasten your seat belt.”

Calling for All to Focus on Road Safety

Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin urged the public to keep these safety messages in mind to ensure everyone can celebrate the festive season safely. He also encouraged sharing these traffic safety tips with family and friends to expand the impact of this significant initiative, letting the entire community jointly create a safe and memorable Chinese New Year.
