(Bandar Seri Begawan, 13th) Brunei's Teng Yun Temple will celebrate the Bingwu Year, on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, which coincides with the 'Heavenly Grant Festival', 'Day of Heavenly Pardon', and the sacred birthday of Xia Tan Tiger General. On Heavenly Grant Day, the Jade Emperor opens the Southern Heavenly Gate and descends to the mortal realm.
Heavenly Pardon, whose full name is to beseech Heavenly grace and forgiveness, is one of Taoism’s 'Three Pardons' rituals. The 'Three Pardons' are: Heavenly Pardon, Earthly Pardon, and Universal Salvation. Heavenly Pardon is the first stage of the 'Three Pardons', where prayers are offered to 'Tiangong', also known as the 'Jade Emperor'.
The temple will, on July 18 (the sixth day of the sixth lunar month), Saturday, at 11:00 PM, respectfully invite deities to descend and lead all directors and devotees to sincerely welcome the Jade Emperor and the Three Officials and Five Emperors.
On July 19 (the sixth day of the sixth lunar month), Sunday, at 12:00 noon, Venerable Daoji Chan Master will be respectfully invited to descend and ascend to the heavenly courts to perform rituals for disaster relief, fortune enhancement, and merit planting.
On the same day at 5:00 PM, deities will again be respectfully invited to descend as the Jade Emperor and the Three Officials and Five Emperors are respectfully sent off, the Five Camps’ generals rewarded, and offerings made to invisible beings (Good Brothers and Lao Da Gong).
