(Bandar Seri Begawan, 30th) Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) participated in the Sultan and People Celebration in Brunei-Muara District at the Grand Square yesterday.
As part of the festivities marking the Sultan's birthday, BIBD showcased a series of initiatives that reflect its commitment to supporting national development through community empowerment, human capital development, economic inclusivity, and environmental stewardship.
These efforts highlight BIBD's role as a 'development partner' and its continued support for the 'Brunei Vision 2035'.
The bank's delegation was led by Acting Managing Director and CEO Mohd Yusri, and included other senior management, officials, and staff members.
One of the highlights of the event was the 'Teduh Project', a community-driven housing initiative launching in October 2025, aimed at assisting vulnerable families through the reconstruction and repair of homes.
This initiative not only provides physical shelter, but also helps restore families' dignity, sense of security, and stability, enabling them to rebuild their lives and pursue a better future in a safe and conducive environment.
The 'Teduh Project' is funded by the bank's corporate zakat and implemented in close cooperation with government agencies, reflecting both sides' joint commitment to improving the quality of life for those most in need and ensuring that every member of the community is cared for.
Additionally, BIBD's Ramadan charity project 'SABIL' has also drawn attention, conducted in partnership with the Prisons Department and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
This project provides a platform for individuals, organizations, and strategic partners to contribute through donations (sedekah), almsgiving (infaq), and charitable giving, supporting low-income families, orphans, converts, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
Apart from supplying food and essentials, the 'SABIL' project brings communities together through genuine dedication, fostering compassion, unity, and a sense of joint responsibility.
It also promotes meaningful volunteerism by involving BIBD staff along with youth from NGOs and local universities in volunteer activities, empowering them to actively contribute to community welfare while cultivating their leadership, empathy, and social responsibility.
BIBD recognizes that education is a key driver of social mobility and national development, and thus highlighted its flagship CSR programme—'BIBD Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future' (ALAF). This project has supported students from disadvantaged backgrounds since 2013. Through a comprehensive support system that covers educational necessities, financial aid, mentoring, and personal development, ALAF helps students remove barriers to learning and creates pathways to higher education and lifelong success. In support of Brunei Vision 2035, which aims to build a well-educated, highly skilled, and accomplished nation, this project is dedicated to investing in Brunei's youth potential, equipping them with knowledge, values, and opportunities so that they can contribute meaningfully to national socio-economic development.
In addition, BIBD has partnered with the Ministry of Education to support the construction of smart classroom facilities at the Prince’s College. By providing interactive, technology-enabled learning environments, the project aims to foster critical thinking, collaboration, and digital skills among students, helping them thrive in an increasingly knowledge-based economy.

The bank also reiterated its support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), recognizing their pivotal role in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and promoting the diversification of Brunei’s economy. Through a robust ecosystem of financing solutions, business advisory services, digital banking, and strategic partnerships—including cooperation with the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB)—the bank continuously empowers entrepreneurs to start, sustain, and expand their businesses, thus helping to build a more resilient and inclusive economy and achieve the goals of Brunei Vision 2035.
In the fields of education, community development, and entrepreneurship, the bank has also focused on a number of initiatives that underscore its commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development. Through supporting projects for reconstruction, social empowerment, and environmental protection, the bank remains dedicated to building more resilient communities and a more sustainable Brunei to fulfill the objectives of Brunei Vision 2035.

Among these is the 'Rumah Tenunan Project', launched in collaboration with the Prisons Department, which aims to empower female inmates through skills development and economic participation. The plan offers participants the opportunity to learn and preserve Brunei Darussalam’s traditional weaving techniques, while helping them acquire practical skills for better reintegration into society after release. By cultivating self-reliance, confidence, and income-generation opportunities, the Tenunan House Project embodies the shared commitment to rehabilitation, social inclusion, and creating tangible pathways to a brighter future.
Furthermore, BIBD demonstrates its commitment to environmental sustainability through its sustainability framework and the 'Alam Mampan' project. In collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, business partners, and local communities, this initiative is dedicated to protecting and conserving Brunei’s natural ecosystems while raising public environmental awareness. Through restoration and protection efforts for terrestrial and marine environments, as well as community engagement activities, the 'Green Home Project' (Projek Alam Mampan) cultivates a culture of sustainability and shared responsibility.
This initiative embodies BIBD’s belief that protecting the environment is a vital component of national long-term social, economic, and environmental resilience, creating a sustainable future for future generations and contributing towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035.
On the occasion of His Majesty the Sultan’s 80th birthday, BIBD reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the values that have long supported Brunei’s development—compassion, service, and nation-building. Through ongoing investments in community welfare, education, entrepreneurship, social inclusion, and sustainable development, BIBD remains dedicated to creating meaningful and lasting impact, fostering a more resilient, prosperous, and sustainable future for all Bruneians, in alignment with the aspirations of Brunei Vision 2035.
