(Miri, 20th) In order to ensure the safety of schoolchildren crossing the road to and from school, Miri Mayor Yii Siew San conducted an on-site inspection on the 19th at Pu Yi Chung Hwa School, with a focus on inspecting the newly completed pedestrian crossing facility in front of the school.

It is understood that the school submitted an application to the city council at the end of last month, hoping to add a zebra crossing in front of the school to address the safety risks faced by students crossing the road when commuting to and from school. After receiving this request, Yii Siew San promptly arranged for action, and the pedestrian crossing project at that location has now been successfully completed.

During his visit yesterday, Yii Siew San not only confirmed the completion and layout of the pedestrian crossing but also inquired about the progress of the drainage renovation project next to the school. On site, he specifically instructed the relevant responsible units to pay extra attention to safety in the upcoming construction process, and to ensure effective traffic management to guarantee smooth passage around the school area. He also called on the public to slow down when passing through this section, so as to jointly safeguard students’ safety.

Yii Siew San stated: “A safe environment at schools is extremely important. The city council will continue to monitor and improve the traffic facilities around schools to ensure that children can attend school with peace of mind.”

Also accompanying the inspection were relevant city council officials and local community representatives.
