Chinese male artist Huang Xiaoming attended the Hong Kong Marathon event yesterday (26th). In a media interview, he revealed that he failed in his attempt to apply for a doctoral degree last year. However, he is not discouraged and will continue to work hard, aiming to become the first doctorate holder in his family.
Huang Xiaoming graduated with a bachelor's degree from the Performance Department of Beijing Film Academy in 2000, in the same class as Chen Kun and Zhao Wei. The following year, he shot to fame with the TV drama "The Prince of Han Dynasty." With endless drama offers, endorsements, and a growing business empire, he had no time to return to school for further studies. However, according to "Hong Kong 01," Huang Xiaoming revealed that he applied for a doctoral degree last year, but unfortunately was not admitted. He hopes that someday he will make the list of admitted candidates.
When asked why he is so persistent in pursuing a doctorate, Huang Xiaoming laughed and said that sometimes he likes to challenge himself and does not want to stop moving forward. But sometimes he feels too tired and wants to take a rest. For example, this year he has not taken up any acting roles, because he hasn’t found the right script or character, and he wants to continue pursuing his doctoral studies. “No one in our family has a doctorate, so I want to be the first one in my family to have a doctorate.”
As for his mindset in recent years, Huang Xiaoming admits that there have been many changes, describing life as a marathon: “You don't necessarily have to run to the very end to be the winner.” Now, he places more importance on whether he is happy and comfortable at the moment.
