(Kuching, 19th) The hydrogen energy industry is set to play a transformative role in the global energy landscape, and Sarawak is committed to being at the forefront of this transformation.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that collaboration with leading technology companies like Mitsubishi Power, as well as crucial research and development work, is key to optimizing the full potential of hydrogen energy and promoting sustainable development in the region.
According to him, the strategic discussions between the Sarawak delegation and Mitsubishi Power's leadership also focused on enhancing opportunities and initiatives for collaboration in Sarawak's hydrogen energy ecosystem.
Earlier, the Sarawak Premier and his delegation conducted a working visit to the Higashitakato Hydrogen Energy Park today.
The visit to this hydrogen energy facility marks an important step for Sarawak in integrating its hydrogen energy vision with Mitsubishi Power's latest hydrogen technology.
During the visit, the Sarawak Premier and his delegation toured the facility's comprehensive hydrogen value chain, gaining insights into next-generation hydrogen production technologies and the verification process of hydrogen combustion in advanced gas turbines.
This historic visit reflects Sarawak and Mitsubishi Power's joint commitment to advancing the hydrogen energy ecosystem and building local capacity to support Sarawak's energy aspirations.
Meanwhile, Takuya Murase, Senior General Manager of the GTCC business unit at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd (MHI) Energy Systems, expressed his honor in welcoming the Sarawak Premier to the Higashitakato Hydrogen Energy Park.
He added that Sarawak's vision of advancing a hydrogen energy economy aligns with Mitsubishi Power's commitment to providing technical expertise and support.
As part of ongoing support for Sarawak's energy development, Mitsubishi Power recently provided a 500MW hydrogen gas turbine to Petroliam Sarawak Berhad's (PETROS) combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in Miri.
This project, which began in October this year, features a gas turbine designed to burn fuel with up to 30% hydrogen content, making it the most advanced power generation facility in the state.
The Higashitakato Hydrogen Energy Park, developed in 2022, integrates the development, demonstration, and verification of hydrogen production, storage, and utilization technologies at a single location.
Hydrogen combustion equipment testing is conducted at the T-Point 2 combined cycle power plant verification facility, aimed at supporting long-term testing of new technologies.
Mitsubishi Power is the energy solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI).
