(Miri, 25th) Sarawak's Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Rosey Yunus, stated that for a long time, the residents of Bekenu area faced various challenges due to inadequate road infrastructure. Through the construction of this new road, we have addressed a crucial need, providing residents, businesses, and tourists with safer, smoother, and more efficient transportation.
She said this road will offer better basic services for people, such as schools, medical centers, and the Bekenu market, thereby improving the community's quality of life.
Rosey Yunus made these remarks while speaking at the launch ceremony of the upgrading project for Kampung Rambai Road in Bekenu.
She pointed out that today is an important moment for our community as we have taken the first step towards improving connectivity and accessibility in the Subis area with this road project. This initiative is not just about building new roads but laying the foundation for progress, development, and better opportunities for all in the area.
“The new project will connect four villages, namely Kampung Rambai, Kampung Sinop, Kampung Mutap, and Kampung Bulau. The road will start from Kampung Rambai, pass through Kampung Sinop and Kampung Mutap, and finally reach Kampung Bulau.”
She stated that the project includes upgrading approximately 6.5 kilometers of existing gravel road to asphalt and constructing a new 3.5-kilometer asphalt road from Kampung Rambai to Kampung Bulau. Additionally, two concrete bridges will be built, providing easier and safer passage across the two rivers.”
She also mentioned that the project will serve as a catalyst for economic growth. Enhanced connectivity will attract more investments, create job opportunities, and stimulate local business development. Farmers will have better routes to transport agricultural products, businesses will enjoy more convenient access, and the younger generation will have better educational facilities.
“Although we are beginning the construction phase today, we recognize that every development comes with its own challenges. There may be some difficulties along the way, but I urge all parties to work together to ensure the smooth progress of this project. The success of this road relies on the support and cooperation of all parties.”
