Singapore Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be visiting Pahang and Terengganu for five days, starting today (the 4th) until the 8th.
A statement from the Singapore Prime Minister's Office on Sunday (the 3rd) pointed out that Lee Hsien Loong's trip is at the invitation of Pahang Sultan Abdullah and Sultanah Tunku Azizah Aminah. Afterwards, he will continue on to Terengganu.
In Pahang, Lee Hsien Loong will have an audience with the Sultan and attend a luncheon hosted by the Sultan. In addition, he will also meet with key officials such as Pahang Menteri Besar Dato’ Sri Wan Rosdy.
The statement said that this visit will further strengthen the long-standing robust momentum of exchanges and cooperation between both sides, while deepening the multi-layered relationship between Singapore, the various states of Malaysia, and their leaders.
When Sultan Abdullah served as Malaysia's head of state from 2019 to 2024, he made a state visit to Singapore in 2022. The last time Lee Hsien Loong visited Pahang and Terengganu was more than 20 years ago, before he became Singapore's third Prime Minister, when he visited as Deputy Prime Minister.
The statement added that while in Terengganu, Lee Hsien Loong will meet the Menteri Besar of Terengganu, Dato’ Sri Ahmad Samsuri, and other state leaders.
During the visit, Lee Hsien Loong will be accompanied by his wife Ho Ching. The delegation includes Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Edwin Tong, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Social and Family Development Rahayu Mahzam, Member of Parliament Joan Pereira, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The last visit to Pahang by a Singapore official was by the then-Minister for National Development Desmond Lee in 2023. The last visit to Terengganu by a Singapore official was by then-Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Education Dr. Maliki Osman, who visited Terengganu in 2023.#
