The Magistrate's Court issued a remand order on Wednesday for 14 people, including 3 women, to assist in the investigation of a fake birth registration case.
Magistrate Amira Masdura approved the remand order application submitted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muaz and MACC Prosecuting Officer Muhammad Arif, detaining all suspects, aged 28 to 49, from today (16th) until the 20th of this month.
Sources indicated that all suspects were arrested between 12:30 PM and 6:30 PM yesterday at the Selangor MACC office. Investigations revealed that they applied for identity cards and birth certificates at the National Registration Department.
“Between 2015 and 2023, they committed the acts by submitting birth registration forms containing false birth confirmation details of babies, even though there were no records of these babies being born at the relevant hospitals.”
Earlier, all suspects, dressed in detention attire, arrived at the court at 9:11 this morning under the escort of MACC officers and personnel.
In addition, Selangor MACC Director Khairul An confirmed the matter, stating that the investigation is being conducted under Section 18 of the MACC Act.
According to media reports in March, the MACC arrested 16 suspects, including a civil servant, a doctor with a Datuk Seri title, a lawyer, several agents, and applicants for birth registration.
On the morning of March 11, the MACC launched “Operation Outlander” and “Operation Birth,” arresting all suspects, aged between 20 and over 70, at several locations, including clinics and law firms, in the Klang Valley and Johor.
